MIRI, Aug 26 — One person died while three others were injured after the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a tree at Taman Awam Miri, Jalan Bintulu-Miri, early this morning.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said the 24-year-old man who died in the crash was trapped in the driver’s seat.
The department said it received an emergency call at 3 am, prompting fire and rescue personnel from the Miri Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene, about four kilometres from the station.
“Firefighters managed to extricate the trapped victim using special equipment.
“The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health (MOH) medical officer and the body was handed over to the police for further action,” Sarawak JBPM said in a statement today.
The department said one passenger suffered serious injuries while two others sustained minor injuries in the incident, and all three received initial treatment from MOH personnel at the scene.
The rescue operation ended at 3.53 am. — Bernama
