PUTRAJAYA, Aug 25 — Six significant initiatives implemented by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) under Budget 2026 have exceeded their targets as of July 31, with the maintenance of public toilets in local authority (PBT) areas recording the strongest performance at 734 per cent, said Minister Nga Kor Ming.

He said the achievement reflected KPKT’s ability to implement the Madani Government agenda efficiently and responsively, particularly in providing better, more comfortable and inclusive public facilities.

“This achievement demonstrates that every ringgit allocated by the Government is being translated into tangible results that directly benefit the people.

“We do not want the allocation to remain just a figure on paper. Instead, it must translate into projects that can be seen, felt and enjoyed by the people,” he said in a statement today.

He said KPKT had successfully implemented nearly 16,000 public facility projects since the Madani Government took office in 2023, in addition to receiving prestigious accolades such as the National Development Award and the Prime Minister’s Innovation Award.

He said the public toilet maintenance initiative in PBT areas, which received an allocation of RM30 million, recorded the strongest performance at 734 per cent, with 367 projects successfully implemented compared with the original target of 50 projects.

Nga said the construction of Madani stalls and upgrading of dilapidated public markets recorded an achievement rate of 170 per cent, with 102 projects implemented compared with the target of 60 projects, involving an allocation of RM60 million.

In addition, he said 304 maintenance projects for non-Muslim places of worship were implemented compared with the initial target of 200 projects, recording an achievement rate of 152 per cent through an allocation of RM50 million.

Nga said the initiative to upgrade drainage and sewerage systems recorded an achievement rate of 102.67 per cent, with 154 projects implemented compared with the target of 150 projects, involving an allocation of RM55 million.

“This measure is part of KPKT’s ongoing efforts to strengthen basic infrastructure and improve drainage capacity, particularly to reduce the risk of disruptions and flash floods in PBT areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nga said all 113 projects to upgrade fire stations and fire department quarters had been successfully completed, with an allocation of RM10 million.

He said 57 out of the 64 programmes under the Bomba Bersama Rakyat Programme had been implemented as of July 31, achieving an implementation rate of 89 per cent.

“KPKT is committed to ensuring that the remaining programmes are fully implemented to achieve or exceed the 100 per cent target by the end of this year.

“This is in line with efforts to strengthen ties between the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the community, as well as increase public awareness of fire safety and prevention,” he said.

Nga said the achievement also reflected the effectiveness of cooperation among ministries, departments, agencies, local authorities, industry partners and the community in ensuring the Malaysia Madani development agenda was implemented comprehensively.

He also said KPKT would continue to strengthen its service delivery, with a focus on performance, results and impact on the people, to ensure every planned initiative was implemented efficiently and effectively. — Bernama
