SEREMBAN, Aug 23 — An 11-year-old boy who was found in a pond near a foundation centre in Kampung Kapal, Lenggeng early today died from drowning, resulting in a lack of oxygen, police said.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Johari Yahya said the finding was made after a post-mortem at the Forensic Department of Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar here, which began at 9.30am and lasted more than two hours, Harian Metro reported this afternoon.

“External and internal examinations of the victim’s body also found no other injuries or signs indicating abuse,” the senior police officer was quoted as saying.

The boy had been reported missing while taking part in a tahfiz – a Quran memorisation – programme before he was found in a weak condition in a pond near the site.

Police received a report about his disappearance at 12.28am and launched a search with the assistance of relevant agencies around the area.

The boy was found in the pond in a weak condition and given resuscitation before further medical examination was carried out.

He was later pronounced dead by a medical officer from the Lenggeng Health Clinic.
