Thunderstorm warning in effect for Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in several areas in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan until 11 am this morning.

According to the warning issued at 8.50 am, the areas expected to be affected in Sarawak include Betong (Saratok), Sarikei, Mukah (Daro, Matu, Mukah and Dalat), Miri (Beluru and Marudi), Limbang, Kapit (Belaga) and Bintulu (Tatau).

In Sabah, the weather is expected to hit the Interior involving Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Membakut), West Coast (Papar, Penampang, Putatan and Kota Kinabalu).

In addition, the same weather warning has also been issued for the entire Federal Territory of Labuan.

According to MetMalaysia, a warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity of more than 20 millimetres per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour.
