SEPANG, Aug 20 — Police are investigating and attempting to locate an individual believed to be responsible for repeatedly scattering nails along the left off-ramp of the Cybersouth flyover, an act that poses a serious threat to road users.
Sepang police chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said police received a report regarding the incident on July 15 and are continuing to monitor the area to identify the individual responsible.
“I received another email (complaint) yesterday. The complainant stated that there were more (nails). We have been conducting surveillance, but the perpetrator was not present during our checks.
“I hope that anyone with information, whether media colleagues or members of the public, will notify us so we can take action,” he told reporters after a meet-and-greet session with the community of SJKC Dengkil today.
Earlier, Norhizam, who participated in a vehicle convoy organised by the Sepang District Police Headquarters (IPD) in conjunction with the 69th National Month and the ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign, flagged off a convoy of about 50 vehicles.
The convoy travelled 14 kilometres from IPD Sepang to SJKC Dengkil.
Elaborating further, he said the case is being investigated under Section 268 of the Penal Code, which covers acts that endanger the lives or safety of others.
“This act is dangerous because the location is a bend. Such an act of sabotage could cause accidents,” he said.
Several social media users had shared photos and videos of the incident, claiming that nails measuring about two inches had been repeatedly scattered at the location since June.
In a separate development, Norhizam said police were stepping up monitoring of alleged early-morning motorcycle racing activities in the Salak Perdana area, which had been disturbing residents.
He said he had instructed the head of the Sepang IPD Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division to conduct checks in the area after receiving the information yesterday.
“We are in the process of mounting an operation, as we also intend to investigate whether they are involved in using vapes (electronic cigarettes) containing harmful substances,” he said.
He added that the case would be investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving that endangers other road users. — Bernama
