DARO, Aug 17 — Firefighters are on their eighth day of working to extinguish a forest fire in Kampung Kut here, which has affected about 29ha of land.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement that firefighters are working to completely extinguish the remaining hotspots of the forest fire.

About 4ha of the affected area remained unextinguished as of Sunday.

Firefighters from the Daro fire station were deployed to three sectors during the operation.

“Sector one is located behind a petrol station, sector two along the main road, while sector three is near a telecommunications tower,” said Bomba.

Firefighting operations continued until 5pm, with two excavators deployed to create firebreaks to prevent the blaze from spreading further.

Firefighters also used water from nearby drains and a check dam to support suppression efforts.
