SUNGAI PETANI, Aug 15 — A 77-year-old retired pharmacist went to a shop in Pekan Sungai Lalang here to see his younger sister, only to discover her body after noticing a foul smell coming from the premises.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the man arrived at the shop at about 6pm and became suspicious after detecting the smell from inside.

“He then contacted the police for assistance,” Hanyan was quoted as saying by Harian Metro last night.

The woman, aged 69, was believed to have been living alone at the shop.

Her body was taken to the Forensic Unit at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Kedah for a post-mortem.

Police have classified the case as sudden death pending the post-mortem report.
