TAIPING, Aug 14 — Applications for admission to Ministry of Education (MOE) Vocational Colleges (KV) have reached 67,045 nationwide as of today, against a capacity of 19,567 places.

Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the figure was expected to exceed 68,000 when applications close at midnight tonight.

He said this reflected strong interest in skills-based education, which was also reflected in the nearly 100 per cent employability rate recorded among KV graduates.

“The increase in applications proves the success of efforts by the Madani Government and the MOE to strengthen the TVET sector and subsequently boost graduate employability,” he told reporters after the signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Toyo Tyre Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) here today.

Wong said the employability rate of KV graduates reached 99.95 per cent in 2023, while rates of between 98 and 99 per cent had been consistently recorded in recent years.

He said close collaboration between the MOE and industry players ensured that the fields offered and skills acquired by KV students met job market requirements.

“This exceptionally high employability rate shows that collaboration with industry is vital to ensure the fields offered and skills acquired meet job market requirements,” he said. — Bernama
