MELAKA, Aug 14 — Political competition should be based on ideas and the ability to offer the best solutions to the people, rather than exploiting matters of faith for political gain, said Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek.

She said religious issues should be respected and should not be exploited for political gain, particularly during elections.

“Do not incite people over matters of faith or exploit religion arbitrarily. We also believe that the space available is an opportunity for us to broaden and compete in terms of ideas, concepts, and who can offer better solutions.

“It should not be about campaigning by disparaging one another,” she said when delivering her winding-up speech at the 2026 Wanita PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh today.

Fadhlina also urged all PKR leaders and members to reconnect with the grassroots by strengthening ties with the people, including by understanding the community’s needs directly.

She said leaders at all levels of the party must be sensitive to the circumstances of the communities around them and take action to assist those in need.

“Look around your neighbours’ homes, as there may be many things that need our help. So, this is among the things that must also return to being our foundation with the people,” she said.

Fadhlina also reminded PKR members to remain loyal and steadfast in their commitment to the party’s struggle despite facing various trials and challenges.

She said the party’s strength must be built through hard work and the readiness of its machinery at all levels to ensure that the shared struggle with the people could continue.

“So, let’s continue our hard work, remain loyal, committed and confident in this struggle. Insya-Allah, I am very confident that we will do better,” she said. — Bernama
