MELAKA, Aug 14 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) needs to put forward a more compelling narrative to strengthen people’s confidence in the party, said Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.

He said grassroots strength must also be further strengthened and translated into victories in the next election.

“Being popular alone is not enough. Having gone through the Sabah, Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, there is one thing, and I believe everyone agrees, that our grassroots strength is not yet strong enough to translate into victories.

“Since 1998, we have entered elections riding waves of support, with the people at the time becoming part of our machinery, and until today when we have formed the government,” he said in his speech at the 2026 AMK National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh today.

The congress, which was opened by PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar, was also attended by PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa and Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek.

Muhammad Kamil said the situation required the party to renew its approach, strategy and political activities so that its journey would be more organised, structured and targeted, given that pursuing reform while in and out of government presented different challenges.

Therefore, he urged the party’s members and leadership not to lose heart, but instead to accept the bitter reality that the people had sent a clear signal, calling on the party to rise again for their sake.

Meanwhile, Fadhlina, in her speech, said the congress should serve as a platform for self-reflection, acknowledging weaknesses, listening to the grassroots and formulating an action agenda to strengthen the party.

She said the leaders’ speeches should be embraced and refined into an action agenda, strengthening the organisation, enhancing the fighting spirit, forging new strength and ultimately winning the next election.

“Brothers and sisters, take this opportunity to truly digest all the speeches by the leaders. Use this platform for self-reflection, to acknowledge our weaknesses and shortcomings with full awareness and humility.

“The delegates’ debates should serve as recommendations from the grassroots to further strengthen the party,” she said. — Bernama
