SUBANG, Aug 13 — Indonesian authorities have reportedly allowed Malaysian police investigators to question a Malaysian pilot detained on suspicion of drug trafficking after he allegedly flew from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Jakarta with drugs in his luggage.

According to the New Straits Times, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said a Narcotics Crime Investigation Department team sent to Jakarta had been granted access to interview the suspect.

“From the beginning, our investigators were given access by the Indonesian authorities to interview the subject,” he was quoted as saying.

Saifuddin said the investigation was continuing and urged that the team be given time to complete its work.

He added that proposals to strengthen airport security, being studied by a multi-agency team, could be jointly presented with the transport minister at next week’s Cabinet meeting.

The 39-year-old pilot was detained at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on July 28 after Indonesian authorities allegedly found 70,114 ecstasy pills and four grammes of methamphetamine in his luggage.
