GEORGE TOWN, Aug 13 — About 400 DAP delegates from Penang, Kedah and Perlis attended an engagement session with party secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook and the Central Executive Committee (CEC) leadership here last night.

The session, held ahead of the party’s national congress on Aug 16, served as a platform for delegates to exchange views on party affairs, national issues and the party’s future direction.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in a Facebook post today, said the session also aimed to strengthen unity among members before the congress in Putrajaya this Sunday.

“A heartfelt thank you to Loke, party leaders, delegates and comrades from the northern region for their participation and valuable insights,” he said.

The upcoming congress is expected to see delegates deliberate on the party’s position and future direction within the Unity Government.

The engagement session also follows a recent decision by the Perak DAP to remain in the Unity Government until the end of the current parliamentary term, citing the need for political stability and the continuation of reforms.

Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming was previously reported as saying that remaining in the government would allow the party to continue contributing to policy-making while fulfilling its mandate to voters. — Bernama
