SHAH ALAM, Aug 12 — The Selangor state government is streamlining its metropolitan governance model through the proposed establishment of the Selangor Metropolitan Corporation (PMS) to coordinate development planning across multiple local authority (PBT) jurisdictions.

State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the proposal was part of the Selangor Greater Klang Valley (SGKV) initiative, with the PMS serving as the coordinating body for the planning, development and implementation of projects involving more than one PBT.

“To support the implementation of the model, the state government proposes the establishment of PMS as a state-level coordinating mechanism.

“The establishment of PMS will not change the jurisdiction or functions of PBTs under the Local Government Act 1976. Instead, it will strengthen coordination between the state government, PBTs and relevant agencies in addressing development issues spanning (PBT) administrative boundaries,” he said.

He said this in response to a question from Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid (PH-Batu Tiga) on the progress of the SGKV development at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly today.

Meanwhile, Ng said the proposal to establish PMS had been submitted to the Housing and Local Government Ministry, with further discussions being held with relevant federal government agencies, particularly on legal, governance and implementation aspects.

“Once the process is completed, the PMS Establishment Enactment Bill will be finalised before being tabled in the Selangor State Assembly in accordance with the legal procedures in force,” he said.

At the same time, Ng said the SGKV 2035 Blueprint, which was now nearing finalisation, would serve as a strategic document setting the direction for development and guiding the implementation of the Selangor metropolitan governance model. — Bernama
