SHAH ALAM, Aug 11 — A team of officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department has arrived in Indonesia to question a Malaysian pilot arrested with drugs at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport last month.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the team of four arrived earlier today and has been given two days, August 12 to 13, to interrogate the suspect.

“The interrogation will involve obtaining further detailed information from the suspect to compare with our findings here,” he told a press conference at the Selangor contingent headquarters.

Hussein said investigators were tracing the alleged syndicate members but faced some difficulties because the phone numbers used for communication were registered under false or inaccurate identities.

He also said that four to five individuals have been called in for questioning so far to determine if an insider was involved in the case.

“We are satisfied with the statement provided but it is still too early for me to reveal whether an insider was involved without solid evidence to prove it.

“Yet at the same time I do not rule out such a possibility,” he said.

The case involves a 39-year-old Malaysia Airlines pilot who was arrested shortly after arriving at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Kuala Lumpur on July 28.

Indonesian authorities said more than 26kg of ecstasy tablets and a small quantity of methamphetamine were found in a suitcase the pilot collected after customs officers flagged it during an X-ray inspection.
