PASIR GUDANG, Aug 10 — The bodies of two primary schoolboys, who had been reported missing since last night, were recovered at a dam here by Fire and Rescue Department personnel early this morning.
The victims have been identified as Mohammad Haikal Ramzi, 12, and Muhd Adam Farish Arman, 11.
The two friends were believed to have drowned while playing at a dam in Jalan Murai 2 in Taman Scientex here yesterday evening.
“We were told the two children were earlier reported missing and their families became concerned when they did not return to their respective homes.
“Both victims were believed to have gone swimming in the dam based on the discovery of a bicycle and slippers belonging to one of the victims at the scene,” he said.
Pasir Gudang fire and rescue station operations commander Haizrul Rahmad said a water rescue team recovered Mohammad Haikal’s body at a depth of two metres and a distance of three metres from the dam’s edge at 2.12am.
He said Adam’s body was later found at a depth of two metres and a distance of 4.5 metres from the dam’s edge at 2.33am.
“The bodies of both victims were later handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement today.
Haizrul said the search and rescue operation, involving fire and rescue personnel from the Pasir Gudang and Skudai stations, ended at 3am.
He said a total of 19 personnel and six engines were earlier dispatched to the location at 11.49pm last night to conduct the search and rescue operation.
