KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Police will be filing an application for an inquest into the shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, which claimed the lives of three people on November 24 last year.

The filing is expected to be completed by Wednesday or Thursday this week.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the inquest itself will take place in Melaka, although the exact date has yet to be determined.

He explained that the proceeding is likely to take considerable time, as all relevant parties will be called to testify, including the police officers involved in the shooting, who remain on duty but have been assigned to non-active roles.

On July 20, the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) decided that an inquest should be held to look into the matter.

The AGC stated that the purpose of the proceeding is to establish the cause and circumstances of the deaths, examine the facts surrounding the incident, and determine whether any criminal elements were involved.

On November 24 last year, three men aged between 24 and 29 were shot dead at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal around 4am.

The incident is said to have occurred when one of the men allegedly swung a machete at a police corporal, leaving the officer in his early 30s with serious injuries to his left arm.

On May 26, Kumar reportedly said that the investigation paper was resubmitted to the AGC following compliance with several further directives sought by the prosecution. — Bernama
