PETALING JAYA, Aug 9 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has denied a viral social media post falsely linked to the deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP), stressing that the content was fabricated and misleading.

The force said the post, shared via a Facebook account, carried visuals and text suggesting the deputy IGP had held a special press conference at Bukit Aman on a police operation.

“PDRM stresses that the post is fake. The deputy IGP has never held such a press conference or issued any statement as claimed,” the force said in a statement issued by DCP Datuk Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali, secretary of the Royal Malaysia Police.

The statement added that the content used false images and identity markers to create the impression it was an official position of PDRM.

“Such acts risk confusing the public, sparking misunderstanding and undermining the credibility of both the individual and the institution.”

Police confirmed a report has been lodged to enable a full investigation into those responsible for producing and spreading the post, including examining the motive behind its circulation.

“PDRM views seriously any attempt to fabricate, manipulate or disseminate false content using the identity, image or position of police officers to give the impression that a statement or action is official,” it said.

The public was advised not to believe or share unverified information and to seek confirmation through official PDRM channels and credible news sources.

“PDRM also urges society to be responsible social media users and not to engage in spreading content that could cause confusion or disrupt public order,” the statement added.
