SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 — The Selangor state government will meet workers expected to be affected by the closure of television production operations at Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PAVCKM) next week to discuss assistance and alternative employment opportunities.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the meeting would be conducted by State Human Resources, Poverty Alleviation, Indigenous & Minority Affairs Committee chairman V. Papparaidu, together with representatives from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), to obtain relevant information from the affected workers.

“Next week, Papparaidu will meet with the affected group to explore and offer necessary support, especially as their factory faces potential closure.

“Early intervention measures, such as providing food baskets, will certainly be carried out, but we will also assist them in finding alternative employment so they can sustain the lives they have built in this state over the years,” he told reporters after officiating the Selangor Mega Jobcare 2026 programme here today.

In a statement yesterday, Panasonic Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Panasonic) said production operations for two products would be closed, impacting 400 workers by the end of March next year.

Meanwhile, Papparaidu said cooperation with Perkeso could see the agency providing financial protection and assistance to workers who lose their jobs amid the expected retrenchments.

“The most important part is Perkeso providing a form of insurance where, if they are retrenched and remain unemployed, they will receive payments in stages. It acts as a job-seeking allowance, starting at 80 per cent of their salary in the first month, 50 per cent in the second month, and subsequently 30 per cent as well.

“This is a new initiative by Perkeso that greatly assists people, especially Selangor residents who face retrenchment. I hope we do our best to resolve these issues,” he said.

Meanwhile, Selangor Mega Jobcare 2026 brings together 147 employers offering more than 11,000 vacancies, with 62.2 per cent offering monthly salaries exceeding RM3,000.

The career fair, organised in collaboration with MYFutureJobs for participants aged between 18 and 60, is being held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) from 9 am to 5 pm and concludes tomorrow. — Bernama
