SHAH ALAM, July 2 — Selangor’s economy expanded by RM28 billion in 2025 to reach RM460.1 billion, accounting for 26.5 per cent of Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP), Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said today.

He said the growth, which exceeded projections by Universiti Putra Malaysia and the Selangor Research Institute, was more than double that of any other state. Selangor’s economy is now 1.7 times the size of Kuala Lumpur’s and 2.7 times Johor’s.

The state recorded a growth rate of 6.3 per cent last year, surpassing the national average of 5.2 per cent. The expansion was driven by the services sector (RM15.9 billion), manufacturing (RM5.3 billion) and construction (RM3.7 billion).

Selangor now contributes 35.9 per cent of Malaysia’s construction activity, 32.8 per cent of manufacturing and 27.1 per cent of services.

Amirudin said the achievement was made possible through the First Selangor Plan (RS‑1), a five‑year socio‑economic blueprint from 2021 to 2025, which saw the state economy grow by 33.9 per cent, or RM116.6 billion.

He added that the achievement was not solely the result of policymaking in Shah Alam, but also the collective efforts of the people of Selangor.

Looking ahead, Amirudin said the state must set its sights on becoming the first in Malaysia to reach a RM500 billion economy, a goal that will require close collaboration between the public service, the workforce and the private sector.

He emphasised that future policies will prioritise improving living standards, ensuring that economic progress translates into tangible benefits for the people.

“I would like to thank the civil service, industries investing in the state, and above all the people of Selangor for their dedication and contribution to this economic success,” he said.
