KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — A 21-year-old driver has been charged in connection with a crash on the Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE) that led to the death of a motorcyclist who fell 30 metres from a flyover.
The charge was mentioned at the magistrates’ court on Friday, according to the New Straits Times, which reported that the accused — a woman — was released on RM1,500 bail with one surety.
Her driving licence has been suspended pending the disposal of the case, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said in a statement.
The court fixed September 10 for document submission.
Earlier reports said the 31-year-old victim, identified as Muhammad Shafeeq Hashim, died after falling from the flyover at Km15.8 of the SPE northbound towards Sungai Besi at about 4.40pm.
Investigators said the woman had reportedly lost control of her vehicle during heavy rain before hitting the left shoulder of the road and colliding with two motorcycles sheltering beneath the flyover.
The impact caused the victim to be thrown over the edge, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim’s wife, Nurbaizura, later shared her grief on social media, posting a family photograph and expressing heartbreak over his sudden death.
