ALOR SETAR, June 27 — The Kedah Immigration Department (JIM) has detained another man suspected of involvement in migrant smuggling during Ops Serkap at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex on Thursday.

It said the 36-year-old suspect was detained by the Intelligence and Special Operations Division of the department at the complex while he was present for immigration-related travel arrangements.

“The suspect has been handed over to the Enforcement Unit at Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS for further action under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM),” it said in a statement yesterday.

The court has granted a remand order for four days until June 29 to assist investigations, it said.

The department said the latest arrest is a continuation of detailed investigations into the smuggling of a Chinese national through the country’s border entry point on March 30.

It added that the first suspect was earlier detected when he entered the country via the Padang Besar ICQS on April 24 before being detained. — Bernama
