KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit nine states and Labuan until 7pm tonight, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In an alert issued at 5pm, MetMalaysia said two northern states are expected to experience these weather conditions: in Kedah, the affected areas are Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu; while in Penang, they cover Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah and Seberang Perai Selatan.
In Perak, the forecast covers the coastal areas of Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, and Hilir Perak, as well as inland areas of Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.
On the east coast, the warning applies to Terengganu, including the coastal districts of Setiu and Dungun, and inland Hulu Terengganu, and to Pahang, covering Cameron Highlands, the interior districts of Lipis, Raub and Jerantut, as well as the coastal areas of Bentong and Kuantan.
“In Selangor, the areas expected to be affected are Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat, as well as Jelebu district in Negeri Sembilan,” the statement read.
Over in East Malaysia, thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit both Sarawak and Sabah until 7:00 pm tonight. In Sarawak, the affected areas are Kuching (Bau and Lundu), Miri (Miri and Marudi), and Limbang; while in Sabah, the warning covers the Interior district (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), the West Coast, Sandakan (Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan), and Kudat.
MetMalaysia stated that the thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert valid for no more than six hours per issuance. — Bernama
