KOTA BHARU, June 9 — Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud has assured victims of the Kampung Gok Kapor fire here that they will receive proper shelter, assistance and support.
He expressed confidence that state Local Government, Housing, Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Izani Husin, together with the relevant agencies, will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate aid for the victims.
“The priority now is to ensure that every victim receives appropriate shelter, assistance and support,” he said in a post on Facebook yesterday.
Mohd Nassuruddin said he received news of the fire in the Kijang state constituency shortly after arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
He said the incident, which destroyed residents’ homes in the blink of an eye, was deeply saddening and was felt by the people of Kelantan as a whole.
He expressed gratitude that no fatalities were reported and thanked firefighters and rescuers, mosque officials, volunteers and members of the public who came forward to assist the victims.
Yesterday, 27 houses were destroyed in the fire at Kampung Gok Kapor.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Fire and Rescue Department’s forensic team. — Bernama
