KLUANG, June 5 — The 19-year-old driver involved in a fatal crash that claimed five lives in Simpang Renggam near Kluang on June 1 was remanded again today to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
He was remanded for four days until next Monday after a remand order was issued by Judge Mujib Saroji at the Kluang Sessions Court here this morning.
Earlier, the suspect, who was dressed in a brown shirt, arrived at the court complex at 8.45 am under tight police escort.
The suspect had previously been released on police bail after being remanded for three days until yesterday to assist investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
However, police rearrested the suspect to enable investigations to be conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The crash, which occurred last Monday at KM27 of Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam, resulted in the deaths of four members of a family travelling in a Toyota Vios, including a 10-year-old girl, at the scene.
The teenager, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz A250, is suspected of driving recklessly alongside a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother, who succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to hospital.
The accident is believed to have occurred when the BMW 530e lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with a Perodua Alza, a Toyota Vios, a Proton Wira and another Mercedes-Benz. — Bernama
