IPOH, June 5 — Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin has been appointed as the new Perak chief police officer, effective today.
The handover of duties ceremony, held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here, was witnessed by Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
Mohd Alwi replaces Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, who has taken over as director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department.
At the same event, Datin Noormawati Abdul Latip handed over her duties to Datin Wan Norazah Wan Chik as the new Police Families Association (PERKEP) chairperson.
Mohd Alwi, 58, who hails from Pusing, Perak, has served in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for 35 years.
He previously served in the Sabah Police Contingent and held the post of Bukit Aman Management Department (Appointments) deputy director. — Bernama
