Two teenage girls drown while swimming in Sandakan quarry pond

SANDAKAN, May 31 — Two teenage girls drowned while swimming in a quarry pond at Kampung Gum-Gum here on Sunday afternoon.

 

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said firefighters were alerted to the incident at 5.3pm and arrived at the scene at 5.59pm.

"One victim was found by members of the public before the arrival of the fire and rescue team, while the second victim was located by firefighters with the assistance of the public," he said.

 

The victims, identified as Nurfatin, 15, and Nurdina Nirmala, 17, were believed to have been swimming in the quarry pond at about 5pm.

 

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel. — Daily Express
