KAPIT, May 31 — Those returning to their hometowns and villagers for gawai Dayak must always prioritise safety and also be considerate to other road users.
In giving this reminder, Deputy Minister in Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat observed that the traffic volume along the Jalan Kanowit-Ngemah-Song-Kapit stretches had increased over the past one week.
“Nowadays, many are travelling in their own vehicles. To these folks, drive carefully to ensure a safe journey.
“Those travelling by boats must also practise the safety measures; the same goes for those boarding the express buses.”
The Bukit Goram assemblyman also called upon those celebrating to spend prudently during this festive season, amidst the current global situation.
“The world today is facing many uncertainties, including the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has been adversely affecting the global economy.
“As we celebrate Gawai with our families and friends, I encourage everyone to spend wisely and according to their means.
“Avoid the unnecessary expenses; think about the future of your family.
“Any savings be channelled towards the children’s education, and also to prepare for unforeseen circumstances,” he said in his Gawai Dayak 2026 message.
Jamit also took the opportunity to wish fellow Dayaks a joyful and meaningful Gawai celebration.
“I hope that this festive season could strengthen our unity, harmony and togetherness,” said the deputy minister, who is hosting an open house at his residence in Sungai Pelajau, Jalan Bukit Goram here tomorrow (June 1) from 11am to 2pm. — Bernama
