Missing for three days, Pontian woman, 77, found safe in oil palm plantation

PONTIAN, May 28 — Authorities today found a 77-year-old woman who went missing after passing through an oil palm plantation in Kampung Medan Sari here three days ago.

The woman was found safe and unharmed at 10.50am by villagers near the area where she was first reported missing in the plantation late Tuesday.

Pontian Baru fire and rescue station senior fire officer Mohd Khairul Anwar Ab Ghani said the victim, identified as Nathiah Selamat, was found on the third day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The operation commander said the victim was found within a 2.4km radius east of the operation’s incident control post.

“The victim has been sent to Pontian Hospital for examination and treatment,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Khairul Anwar said the SAR operation involved eight fire and rescue personnel, including the department’s K-9 unit.

“The team was also assisted by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit,” he said.

It was reported yesterday that the victim had gone missing while on her way home to Kampung Sri Bunian at 11am.

Following that, a SAR operation was launched to locate the victim.
