JOHOR BAHRU, May 8 — A new digital immigration system aimed at easing one of the world’s busiest land borders will be introduced at the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.
He said the National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) will be deployed at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex at Bukit Chagar when it begins operations on January 1, 2027.
He said the system’s full rollout will coincide with the launch of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link service, which is expected to significantly improve cross-border connectivity between Johor and Singapore.
“The MyNIISe system’s full rollout will coincide with the launch of the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link service, which is expected to significantly improve cross-border connectivity between Johor and Singapore,” he told reporters after reviewing the progress of the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link project at the ICQS at Bukit Cagar Station here today.
Saifuddin Nasution said the disruptions that were previously reported at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar here were due to glitches in the older system, the Malaysian Immigration System.
He said the outgoing MyIMMs at the country’s other entry points will also soon be replaced by MyNIISe.
“So, the change to MyNIISe is a major initiative.
“With this new system in place, disruptions will be a thing of the past," he said, adding that MyNIISe is currently in the final stages of implementation.
On the possibility of technical disruption with the new system, Saifuddin Nasution assured that the government is committed to minimising issues related to MyNIISe.
He said any new system will have some issues as no system is perfect during a transition phase.
“What is important is that the vendor developing the system must be prepared with a plan to mitigate the issue before it happens,” he said.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said the RTS here will have a total of 220 autogates that will go through a system integration process using the MyNIISe platform in mid-June.
He said the next phase involves system integration and trial tests in stages.
“The implementation of such a major project aims to strengthen national security with the use of the latest monitoring technology. The technology used will allow every movement to be recorded, analysed and monitored in real time.
“This is to prevent acts of smuggling, illegal entry or other security threats,” he said.
The RTS Link, which is expected to be fully operational in January next year, connects Bukit Chagar Station here to Woodlands North Station in Singapore with an estimated travel time of five minutes.
