KUALA LUMPUR, May 8 — Cloud Seeding Operations (OPA) Series 5 and 6 will be conducted in Perlis and Kedah from May 10 to 12 and May 17 to 19 respectively, said Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.

He said the operations were carried out as a proactive measure to increase rainfall distribution in the main dam catchment areas.

“This operation will focus on the Timah Tasoh Dam catchment areas in Perlis, as well as the Pedu, Ahning, Muda and Beris dams in Kedah, to raise water levels at the dams, which are currently at alert level,” he said in a statement today.

Arthur said the OPA would be implemented based on meteorological analyses conducted by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), taking into account factors such as air humidity, atmospheric stability and wind movement patterns to ensure the effectiveness of the operation.

He said the areas were selected due to the presence of rain clouds with potential for cloud seeding.

Arthur added that the implementation of the OPA involved strategic collaboration between MetMalaysia, the National Disaster Management Agency and the Royal Malaysian Air Force. — Bernama
