KAJANG, May 3 — The body of a nine-year-old girl who fell into a drain and was swept away by strong currents in Bandar Mahkota Cheras two days ago was found in Sungai Langat near Jalan Reko here today.
Kajang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief and operations commander Izman Adnan said Nur Qaseh Deandra Mohd Qayyum’s remains were discovered about 10.6 kilometres from where she was reported to have fallen.
“The victim was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team at about 12.17 pm, and her identity was confirmed by her parents at around 1.20 pm,” he told reporters here today.
He said the body has been handed over to the police and taken to the Forensic Medicine Department of Kajang Hospital.
Izman said rescue teams faced challenges accessing entry points to Sungai Long, but favourable weather conditions throughout the operation helped facilitate the movement of personnel.
The SAR operation, which entered its third day this morning, was expanded to cover a 29-kilometre radius, including Sungai Long and Sungai Langat towards Putrajaya.
On Friday, Nur Qaseh Deandra was swept away by strong currents while trying to retrieve a ball that had fallen into a drain while playing with friends near her apartment. — Bernama
