PUTRAJAYA, April 8 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today panned PAS president for claiming there is no justification for raising diesel prices by comparing Malaysia to Thailand, calling the latter’s statement inaccurate and regretful.

This comes as Anwar government alleges a coordinated misinformation campaign that manipulate the global energy crisis to incite hate.

Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang recently said the Anwar government has no reason to increase diesel price since Iran has allowed Malaysian oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“I’m not sure if he was given the right information but diesel price in Thailand is actually higher than the price in the country,” Fahmi said at a press conference here.

“There are no countries or government in the world, including the UAE that did not have to raise prices.”

Diesel prices in Peninsular Malaysia have held steady at RM6.02 per litre for Euro 5 B10 and B20 blends as the current weekly pricing cycle concludes today.

The Ministry of Finance confirmed that the premium Euro 5 B7 grade remains priced at RM6.22 per litre, reflecting the full implementation of the managed float system across the Peninsular.

To mitigate the impact on domestic transport costs, the government continues to disburse RM300 monthly through the Budi Madani cash assistance program to eligible private owners and small-scale farmers.

Fahmi said there is no reason for the PAS president to give an inaccurate picture about the situation since his party colleague, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Moktar, was among those briefed about it in a meeting between the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and all chief ministers last week.
