KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — A man featured in a viral video of a car crashing into two motorcyclists yesterday pleaded not guilty today at the Magistrate’s Court to two charges of reckless and dangerous driving.

T S Kugenthiran, 25, is accused of having driven recklessly, endangering Muhammad Afiq Zayani Azliyuszaini, 24, and Muhammad Hairy Abdul Rahman, 19, on Jalan Sultan Ismail, heading from the city centre towards Tuanku Abdul Rahman, at 4.30 am on April 2.

He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM15,000, disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years, and cancellation of a probationary licence upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Mohd Razib had earlier offered bail of RM4,000 per charge with one surety.

However, the accused’s lawyer, Ahmad Nadzli Rizal, sought a lower bail, explaining that his client is single, works part-time in Genting Highlands, and is awaiting admission for further studies.

Magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan granted bail of RM3,000 for each charge with one surety and set June 15 for the case mention.

Earlier, police detained a man to assist in investigating a road accident involving a car and two motorcycles, reportedly caused by a failure to obey a red traffic light.

Investigations showed that the two motorcycles were crossing the intersection on a green light when a car approaching from the right allegedly ran a red light, striking the motorcyclists.

Both riders sustained serious injuries and were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, with the 24-year-old losing his left leg, while the other suffered fractures to his left arm and leg. — Bernama
