IPOH, April 3 — A high-speed pursuit through the streets of Bercham ended in a crash and the arrest of two men early this morning, with police discovering suspected drugs and cable theft equipment in their vehicle.
The incident unfolded at approximately 2:30 AM when a mobile patrol vehicle unit on routine patrol spotted a vehicle behaving suspiciously.
When ordered to pull over, the driver sped off, triggering a chase through the neighborhood.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Najib Hamzah said the suspects drove dangerously before losing control and colliding with a roadside pole.
“With the assistance of several police units, the vehicle was eventually intercepted, and both suspects were successfully apprehended,” he said in a statement today.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of substances believed to be methamphetamine (syabu), along with various tools typically used for cable theft.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 30, have been remanded to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under relevant drug laws and for the possession of equipment intended for criminal use.
