Explosion sparks fire at Chinese prayer shop in Kuala Krai; owners escape with burns (VIDEO)

KUALA KRAI, April 3 — A couple suffered burns after their shop selling Chinese religious items at Central Park here caught fire Wednesday night.

Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa said the department received an emergency call at about 8.30 pm before dispatching a firefighting team.

He said a total of 21 personnel from BBP Kuala Krai, BBP Sungai Durian and the Guchil Volunteer Fire Team were involved in the operation.

“Upon arrival, we found that a premises selling Chinese prayer items was about 90 per cent destroyed by the fire,” he told Bernama at the scene.

He said the couple were taken to Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital for further treatment after they were believed to have sustained burns in the incident.

Meanwhile, witness Nur Husna Hamat, 23, said she and her colleague Mazlin Izzati Che Mat Nawi, 22, were working at a grocery shop next door when they heard a loud explosion and saw flames spreading from the affected premises, prompting her to immediately contact the Fire and Rescue Department. — Bernama
