Rider’s leg severed in early morning KL crash, Honda City driver arrested

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — A 24-year-old motorcyclist had his leg severed in a horrific crash after a car allegedly ran a red light along Jalan Sultan Ismail here early this morning. A second rider was also seriously injured.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Zamzuri Isa said the collision occurred at about 4.27am, Free Malaysia Today reported..

The two motorcyclists were crossing the junction on a green light when they were struck by a Honda City.

The 19-year-old rider sustained fractures to his left arm and leg. Both victims were rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

The 25-year-old driver of the car sustained minor hand injuries, while a passenger in the vehicle suffered head injuries.

Zamzuri confirmed that the driver was later arrested at a clinic in Rawang while seeking treatment.

A preliminary breathalyser test found the driver’s alcohol level to be within the legal limit, but a urine sample has been sent for screening.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.

The incident gained widespread attention after a video of the crash went viral on social media.
