KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) planning is assisting the government in providing sufficient oil and gas supplies at least until May, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“This is very helpful to the people and the country,” he said.

He said in a video message today that the government has established the National Economic Action Council and selected very credible figures to assist in this area.

“We have held several special programmes, both by the Cabinet and special committees, so that fuel consumption is controlled and energy supplies are guaranteed.

“We thank Petronas for its planning to help us by providing sufficient oil and gas at least until May and this is very helpful to the people and the country,” he said.

He said the government had earlier announced that it would take early measures and this included more controlled Aidilfitri celebrations.

“The government would introduce austerity measures and a much more moderate celebration,” he said. — Bernama
