SHAH ALAM, Jan 23 — Former Army chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan was charged with two additional counts of money laundering at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today.

The charges involve his alleged receipt of proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to RM145,000 in 2024 and last year.

Hafizuddeain pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read out before judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin.

According to the charge sheet:

  • Between September 19, 2024 and November 28, 2024, at Maybank Ampang Point branch, he allegedly received RM115,000 in proceeds from unlawful activities, deposited into his Maybank account
  • On May 19, 2025, at the same branch, he allegedly received RM30,000 in proceeds from unlawful activities, also deposited into his Maybank account

Both charges were framed under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA), which carries a maximum 15-year jail term and a fine of RM5 million, or at least five times the value of the alleged illicit proceeds, whichever is higher.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat told the court that Hafizuddeain is already facing four similar charges involving more than RM2.1 million at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.

He said the prosecution would be applying to transfer the two new charges to the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court so they could be tried together, as the cases involve the same witnesses.

Mahadi also requested that the court extend the existing bail of RM250,000 with two sureties — along with earlier conditions — to cover the additional charges.

The prosecution further requested that the matter be fixed for mention on March 30 together with the earlier cases.

Defence counsel Aizul Rohan Anyar did not object to any of the applications.

Sessions Court judge Datuk Mohd Nasir Nordin subsequently allowed all the prosecution’s requests.

At a press conference later at the court lobby, Hafizuddeain told reporters he was in good health.

“Alhamdulillah, I'm well. We will go through the court process and see how it goes,” he said.

Asked about the health of his wife, Salwani Anuar @ Kamaruddin, he said she was suffering from a chronic boil.

“The boil has burst. She was supposed to undergo surgery but had to go through court proceedings. It is hoped that she can be referred to a hospital soon,” he said.

Aizul said Salwani’s court date had been moved from Wednesday to Monday to facilitate the surgery.

“The MACC kindly accommodated the request, and the charging will therefore be carried out earlier on Monday,” he said.

Salwani is expected to be charged with one additional count under the same provision at the Jertih Sessions Court in Terengganu next Monday.
