ALOR SETAR, Oct 28 — Three ferries docked at a pier in Langkawi were destroyed in a fire early this morning.

Langkawi Zone 4 Chief of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Kedah, Fire Superintendent Mohd Zamri Abdul Ghani, said the department received a call about the incident at 2:29 a.m.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the fire involved three ferries that were fully ablaze. There are four ferries stationed close to each other at the pier.

“Feri Bahagia 99 was 90 per cent destroyed, Feri Coral Island was nearly 70 per cent destroyed, and Feri Bahagia 8 caught fire at 10 per cent. No casualties were reported in this incident,” he said.

He added that the firefighting operation involved personnel from the Persiaran Putra and Padang Matsirat Fire and Rescue Stations, using water from hydrants, assistance from water tankers, and a foam stream.

Mohd Zamri said another nearby ferry was unaffected by the fire and had been pulled out of the pier area. — Bernama
