KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — The Cabinet meeting yesterday agreed to maintain the current guidelines and practices regarding the organisation of programmes and the distribution of contributions to schools nationwide.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) in a statement said this decision aligns with the Cabinet’s decision made on July 24 last year.

“The Cabinet also emphasised that existing practices at school halls managed by the School Management Board (LPS) and private school halls will remain unaffected,” the statement said.

“These practices align with those accepted and implemented by previous administrations, including the previous government,” it added.

One key guideline is that fundraising activities within school premises must not involve or promote alcoholic beverages.

On Thursday, during the Dewan Rakyat sitting, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the government will not compromise on any event involving the serving of alcohol or activities that contradict educational values within school premises, including after school hours.

His comments followed an incident where an alumni association of a secondary school in Ipoh, Perak, organised an alcohol-themed party on September 27. — Bernama
