Nanta: JKR inspecting storm-hit school, buildings in Telok Panglima Garang for structural safety

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — The Selangor and Kuala Langat Public Works Department (JKR) are conducting structural inspections and safety assessments on several public buildings in Telok Panglima Garang, Selangor that were damaged during yesterday afternoon’s storm.

Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya sustained damage to its roof and the JKR advised the school authorities to suspend classes till the building’s structural safety could be determined.

“The Selangor JKR electrical engineering branch is also conducting inspections on the wiring of affected buildings as a preliminary measure to curb accidents,” he posted on Facebook yesterday, adding that a new block under the High Density School programme that was just handed over suffered minor damage to its roof and contractors have been instructed to make immediate repairs.

He also conveyed his sympathies to vicitms of the collapsed Sijangkang state constituency coordinator’s office building in Dewan Wawasan Kampung Medan, Kuala Langat.

“So far, I’ve been informed that a woman was injured after being trapped under rubble and was rescued by firefighters before being handed over to the medical team for treatment, while several pupils suffered minor injuries when a surau near the location was damaged,” he added.

Nanta advised the public to stay away from the affected area to avoid untoward incidents and urged all parties to remain safe. — Bernama
