KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will summon the management of KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to explain a series of offences allegedly committed by the company.

According to national daily Berita Harian, JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department took the matter seriously after discovering that the company’s garbage trucks, which operate across Selangor, frequently violated traffic regulations.

“This issue was discussed with Transport Minister Anthony Loke yesterday to ensure firm action is taken against any KDEBWM vehicles that fail to comply with the law.

“I have instructed JPJ Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan to ensure that any problematic KDEBWM garbage trucks are stopped and impounded on the road.

“We want to send a clear message — even though the company is state-owned, it cannot operate without adhering to the law,” he told reporters after a JPJ special operation at the Banting Enforcement Station last night.

Aedy said that as of yesterday, 22 KDEBWM garbage trucks had been seized for committing 154 offences, including the absence of insurance and Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), as well as foreign drivers operating without valid licences.

He said JPJ acknowledged the company’s previous efforts in settling more than 22,000 outstanding summonses amounting to RM3.1 million.

“We commend the initiative, but repeated offences are still being committed by contractors under the company,” he added.

Earlier reports stated that KDEBWM had the highest number of active summonses at 22,017, followed by Mainiza Mantap Sdn Bhd (5,108), Advancecon Machinery Sdn Bhd (3,620), VK Transport Sdn Bhd (3,016), and Ng Swee Aik Trading Sdn Bhd (2,352).
