MetMalaysia warns of severe thunderstorms in Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds across several states in Peninsular Malaysia until noon on Thursday, September 18.

In a Facebook post, it said the affected areas include Perlis; Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, and Kuala Muda); Penang; Perak (Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak); and Selangor (Sabak Bernam).

MetMalaysia explained that the alert is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20 mm per hour, either occurring or expected to persist for more than an hour.

These warnings are short-term, valid for up to six hours per issuance.

The alert was released at 9am, September 18, 2025, to ensure public safety and preparedness.

Members of the public are advised to monitor the latest weather updates through official MetMalaysia channels and take necessary precautions.
