GEORGE TOWN, Aug 29 — The Penang Perikatan Nasional (PN) has yet to decide on its assemblyman who will be the Opposition leader in the state legislative assembly.
Penang PAS state commissioner Muhamad Fauzi Yusoff said today that the state chapter of the coalition has submitted a list of names out of the 11 PN assemblymen elected in the August 12 state election.
"There are names from both PAS and Bersatu submitted to the PN national leadership to decide,” he told reporters here after the state assemblymen swearing-in ceremony at the state legislative assembly here today.
He said the PN leadership will have to decide on the Opposition leader post before the state legislative assembly session which is expected to be held In November.
The 11 Penang PN assemblymen comprise seven from PAS and four from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. Its partner Gerakan had contested in the state election but won zero seats.
Muhamad Fauzi was placed at the state Opposition leader seat today during the swearing-in ceremony.
When asked about his seating position, he said it was arranged by the current Pakatan Harapan- Barisan Nasional unity state government.
It is believed that Muhamad Fauzi, who is Sungai Dua assemblyman, and Penang Bersatu chief Zulkefli Bakar’s (Penanti) names were among those proposed to the coalition leadership to hold the Opposition leader post.
