KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — A total of 5,190 police officers and staff members were subjected to disciplinary action from 2020 to June this year, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has reportedly said.

Utusan Malaysia quoted him saying that from the number of officers and staff involved 3,032 were given warning while 962 were fined.

"A total of 132 staff and officers had their salary delayed while 49 were given pay cuts and another 72 demoted. In the same period, a total of 447 officers and members were fired, especially those who were proven guilty in prosecution cases in court.

"The police through the Department of Integrity and Standard Compliance (JIPS) is committed to taking disciplinary action against any officer and staff found to be involved in breach of integrity,” Razarudin told the Malay daily.

He said action was also taken on 496 officers and staff members, who had their emoluments or allowances removed.

From the total, 1,540 were cases from 2020, 1,571 from 2021, 1,466 from 2022 and 613 were from the first six months of this year.

According to Razarudin, on his end, the police have so far been consistent and have not compromised with any officers and staff deemed "problematic” so that the issue of integrity does not continue to plague the police force.

In fact, he explained, JIPS conducts monitoring and intelligence on members and officers to ensure that they are not involved or colluding with criminal syndicates

"This includes officers and members who were found at entertainment premises, involved in drug abuse and unhealthy activities.

"However, this effort requires full commitment from JIPS and each contingent and district to ensure that the issue of integrity of police members can be addressed,” he said.

On August 6, Razarudin reportedly said that he would monitor or investigate officials or staff who are found to be living lavishly, not equivalent to their position and monthly salary earned.

He reportedly said that the action was done through profiling involving property assets, monthly expenses and so on.
