GEORGE TOWN, Aug 11 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on voters in Malay areas to support candidates from the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional unity coalition in the state polls tomorrow.
He said the Chinese voters’ support is already guaranteed for the unity coalition.
"So, I want all the Malay areas to support and vote for candidates from the unity coalition,” he said in a brief speech at a lunch event in Balik Pulau today before heading off for Friday prayers in a nearby mosque.
He said they will use the mandate given by the people to protect their rights and serve them.
He also reiterated that he will not allow corrupt practices within the unity government.
"We have done our maximum in the past eight months, imagine if we govern for five years, insyaAllah, Malaysia will become a great country in Asia,” he said.
He said the unity government has implemented so many policies for the people such as increasing the price of padi and the price of rubber.
"We are increasing the salaries of civil servants and the private sector, that’s in our plans, insyaAllah, we will implement it,” he said.
He said PAS and Bersatu often criticised him, calling him "bodoh” and "not doing his work” in their ceramah.
"It’s okay, what won’t they say,” he said.
He said he has brought up the price of padi from RM350 to RM500 but the previous government did not do anything in the two years they were in power.
Later, when asked if it was true that the unity government only has support from 24 per cent of the Malay voters, he disagreed.
"That’s a flawed analysis. They probably took it from Kelantan as compared to Selangor,” he said.
"Many of our states, we are doing extremely well, I’m very optimistic,” he added.
The six state elections will be held tomorrow.
