JOHOR BARU, Aug 4 – The Johor Department of Environment (DoE) is still investigating the source of the odour pollution at SK Sungai Tiram and Sekolah Agama Ulu Tiram on Tuesday, said K. Raven Kumar.

The Johor Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman said tests being conducted have not conclusively determined the cause.

"Until now, we have not been able to find concrete evidence pointing to the source of the odour pollution at a single location.

"Therefore, we cannot rush to conclusions until we have solid evidence. What we can be sure of is that the situation is under control and back to normal,” said Raven Kumar to reporters after officiating the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair event at the Austin Convention Centre here today.

On Tuesday, 24 students, two teachers, and two canteen workers at SK Sungai Tiram and Sekolah Agama Ulu Tiram reported experiencing symptoms of nausea, dizziness, and vomiting due to odour believed to be from chemical waste pollution dumped in a nearby river.

The following day, 11 residents from nearby villages around the two schools also experienced the same symptoms after the district health office conducted house-to-house inspections.
