KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said today the party’s disciplinary committee are deciding on Najwan Halimi’s fate following his racial slur against a state election candidate for the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM).
The caretaker Selangor menteri besar said he did not like nor agree with what Najwan said, even though it was in a private Whatsapp conversation.
"The disciplinary committee will decide on his fate and they’ll be making a decision at a later time. I know he has personally contacted PSM’s secretary-general A. Sivarajan to apologise.
"However, despite that his comments aren’t as bad as what Sanusi is saying at his political talks, then turns around and blames others for twisting his words,” Amirudin was quoted saying in Malaysia Gazette.
Meanwhile, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman condemned Najwan for making the racial slur against social activist M. Sivaranjani who was nominated by PSM for the Meru seat in Selangor.
"I know her, she is one of the most dedicated activists, who fights for the people. This candidate is someone who fights for the rights of the cleaners and security guards and I have personally seen her work.
"Also, Muda has always been in solidarity with PSM and we feel the comments made against her were unethical and lacked morals,” he said, after Muda and PSM decided to collaborate for the state election.
Najwan, the Shah Alam PKR deputy chief, is in the soup following a screenshot of his text message in a WhatsApp group that was a racial slur against PSM candidate Sivaranjani.
According to the screenshot, Najwan had shared a news report on PSM’s Meru candidate Sivaranjani Manickam on a WhatsApp group, and commented that the party was an "Indian estate party”.
He has since apologised, denying the message was racial and prejudicial towards the ethnic Indians.
