Hang Tuah Village upgrade to cost RM4m, says Melaka Museum Corp chairman

MELAKA, June 19 — The Hang Tuah Village in Duyong, here, will be upgraded at an allocated cost of RM4 million, Melaka Museum Corporation (Perzim) chairman Datuk Akramuddin Abdul Aziz said.

The upgrade is part of the preparation for Visit Melaka Year 2024 (VMY 2024) and involves improvements to the infrastructure and exhibits at the museum, as well as to provide comfort for visitors.

"The quotation or tender for the upgrade of the Hang Tuah Village was done by the Melaka Public Works Department (JKR), and the upgrading process is expected to commence soon so that it can be completed before VMY 2024,” he told reporters after officiating the ‘Mendam Berahi Vessel: Reality or Myth?’ seminar here today.

Akramuddin said the village will be temporarily closed to facilitate the upgrade, while there will be several new attractions such as cultural performances on weekends once the Hang Tuah Village reopens.

He also shared that the Chief Minister’s Gallery in Bukit Peringgit along with the Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Museum in Banda Hilir, here, which were temporarily closed for upgrading work, will reopen soon.

A total of RM1.5 million was allocated for the upgrading work for both the two tourism sites, and would bring the total of museums and galleries managed by Perzim to 23 from the existing 21, he said.

"With this increase, we project over RM5 million in ticket sales collection during VMY 2024,” he added. — Bernama
