KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — The Association of Banks Malaysia today congratulated Datuk Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour on the latter’s appointment as the next Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor.
Its chairman Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli described Abdul Rasheed as a "true home-grown talent” who played key roles in driving the nation’s economy.
"The banking industry will certainly benefit from his experience as we continue to progress and navigate through the headwinds,” Khairussaleh, who is also the group president and chief executive officer of Malayan Banking Bhd, said in a statement.
Abdul Rasheed will be taking over from incumbent BNM governor Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus for a five-year term starting July 1 to June 30, 2028.
His appointment was announced last Friday after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong gave his consent.
